  • To the IND – if the Netherlands refused the visa
  • The IND has 12 weeks to decide
  • After the objection: appeal to the court is possible
Common grounds

Why visas are refused

  • Not enough money for the stay
  • The purpose of the trip is unclear

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does 90 days in 180 mean?

On any day of your stay, you look back 180 days. In that period you may have spent no more than 90 days in the Schengen area. Use our 90/180 calculator to check.

How early can I apply?

Up to 6 months before your trip, and no later than 15 days before. In busy months, apply as early as possible.

Can I work on a Schengen visa?

No. Business meetings, trade fairs and training are allowed – paid work in the Netherlands is not.

My visa was refused. Should I apply again?

Not always. If the refusal was wrong, an objection is often stronger. We check which route gives the best chance.

Can I extend my visa in the Netherlands?

Only in special and unexpected situations, such as serious illness or force majeure.

Who can be a sponsor?

A Dutch citizen or resident with sufficient income who signs form 1310 and has the signature legalised.

What is the Entry/Exit System?

The EU Entry/Exit System registers your entry and exit digitally and replaces the stamps in your passport.
